Two South Bend Common Council members are calling on the city to observe a new holiday, inspired in part by the latest Spielberg film, "Lincoln."
Oliver Davis and Karen White have filed a resolution to celebrate Schuyler Colfax day each year on March 23.
Colfax was the Speaker of the House in 1865. That’s the year Congress passed the 13th Amendment, abolishing slavery.
Colfax was a South Bend native. March 23 was his birthday.
