Culver is building a wall to honor those who serve the community. According to WKVI, the city is creating an “honor wall” on the corner of Lake Shore Drive and State, and they're asking the community to purchase bricks in honor of each individual fire fighter and police officer. A new project is launching in Middlebury to reduce the number of feral cats. The Elkhart Truth reports that the Elkhart County Feral Cat Coalition is teaming with the Middlebury Town Cat Project to educate the community about a new trap, neuter and return program. They'll hold a public meeting on the new program next weekend.
The hit Hollywood movie Wolf of Wall Street has a little bit of Dowagiac. Union High School graduate Aaron Heeter worked as a set decoration production assistant on the film, according to The Niles Daily Star. The film is about the main character's stint in federal prison for stock market manipulation. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey.
Mishawaka and South Bend
Spring cleaning starts early in Michiana. Goodwill’s Extreme Closet Makeover competition challenges students in South Bend, Mishawaka and Penn-Harris-Madison districts to donate reusable items. The program runs through February 7th
The 10th annual Hunter Ice Festival begins January 17th. It's happening in downtown Niles and pays tribute to the great history of Hunter Brothers Ice and Ice Cream Company. The event is also known for its creativity. Artists transform 25 tons of ice from Barron Lake into art.
Flu shot clinics are being held over the next few days in Elkhart at the Lincoln Center. The center is located at 608 Oakland Avenue. The Vaccine is available at the following dates and times while supplies last.
