NBC’s “Biggest Loser” has inspired some local people to shed the pounds through their church.
The New Beginnings Church in South Bend kicked off its own version of the Biggest Loser on Sunday. Amid song and prayer, contestants were assigned to teams and given colorful shirts to get ready to start losing weight.
The pastor of New Beginnings says the start of the new year is the perfect time to start the program because with a new year comes a clean slate.
“It seems that it’s so easy to help the obstacles in life, to help us stay right where we're at. The thing I love about the show is that the people that really get it, have a mind change. For us it’s not just about health and losing weight,” said Pastor Ben Norton.
Losing weight has become a family affair, with mother and daughter duos like Daokta Reed and Ranay Bella signing up.
“We were really excited about it until we figured out we were on separate teams in the same household! Shes got more time to work out...I have to work... But it’s gonna be exciting!” said Reed.
New Beginnings plans on having workout classes at the church in order to help people meet their fitness goals.
