Santa received a helping hand from a group of Mishawaka police at today’s “Christmas with a Cop” event.
A parade of cop cars from the F.O.P 91 brought 32 kids to Meijer on Grape Road today. Each of the 32 was paired up with a police officer with a 130 dollar budget to pick whatever toys they wanted.
The kids at today’s event were excited to spend time with the cops, and as Joey Wayer said, “I ride in a cop car with them.”
Organizers say it is a great way to give the children a special day even if they and their families are experiencing tough times.
“The officers everyday see a lot of kids go to a lot of houses, families that are in need. SO we try to pick out some kids and make their Christmas better than what they would’ve had,” said Pasquale Rulli Jr. who participated in “Christmas with a Cop.”
Scott Robinson, of the Mishawaka Police Department said it is not just about making sure the children have presents for Christmas, “We always enjoy meeting new kids and being able to make an impact just be positive role models for the guys.”
The F.O.P held fundraisers and teamed up with Meijer to be able to do this Christmas event for the kids, they say they hope to keep up the tradition again next Christmas season as well.
