Granger, Ind. It was a battle in the kitchen as chefs tried to whip up the best chili of the day on Sunday.
The “Michiana Chili Cook-Off” took over the Heritage Square Plaza, as folks sampled chili prepared by area restaurants and even student chefs.
The rain didn't keep folks from savoring each bite, and even getting a few ideas for their own chili recipes.
“It’s interesting to see what everyone's different interpretation of chili is,” said Ralph Pieniazkiewicz, Co-Chair of the Michiana Chili Cook-Off. “Some put fruit in them, different herbs. People can come out and see what kind of chili they make.”
Money from the event will go to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana and the American Culinary Federation.
Nine groups took part in this year's cook-off.
