A judge says a central Indiana woman must serve six months in jail after pleading guilty to neglect in connection with the shooting death of her 6-year-old son by his older brother.
WISH-TV reports the Morgan County judge sentenced 29-year-old Amanda Vandagrifft of Martinsville to eight years but suspended all but six months Monday in connection with June 2011 death of Andrew Frye. She'll also serve two years of home detention and eight years on probation.
Neither Vandagrifft nor her future husband was home at the time of the shooting. Prosecutors say the woman failed to secure her .22-caliber rifle and ammunition before leaving home. Her husband, Matthew Boulden, also pleaded guilty to a neglect charge and was sentenced in June to six months on home detention.
