A man who helped rescue a motorist from his SUV submerged in a Lafayette pond says he needed a tire iron to break a window on the vehicle.
WLFI-TV reports the driver of the SUV was treated for minor injuries at a hospital after the incident Monday afternoon.
Patrick Gladden tells the Journal & Courier he and another bystander in a nearby restaurant sprinted to the scene after someone called out a vehicle was in the pond. They were able to pull McCurry from the vehicle and pull him to the roof of the vehicle, where they waited for firefighters to bring them to shore.
Lafayette Police Officer Dave Hughes says it's not clear why the motorist, Travis McCurry of Dayton, drove into the pond.
