A historic Elkhart building is looking like will be spared the wrecking ball.
The Elkhart Truth reports that three parties have expressed interest in renovating the century-old armory on Main Street.
The landmark has been a fixture on Main Street since 1885, but heavy snow this winter caused a portion of the roof to collapse.
The city is selling the building for just one dollar, hoping to make a quick sale and get everything repaired. They'll review applications in the coming weeks to determine if any of the potential buyers are prepared to legitimately renovate the property.
If they are, the city will consider investing up to $175,000 to help. That's about what it would cost to demolish the building.
If the city decides none of the interested parties are capable of the renovation, they will move swiftly on demolition bids.
