A burglary in a South Bend office building has investigators baffled by what was taken and what was left behind.
Officers responded to the Hilti facility on Olive Road and found that after breaking into the office through the ceiling, the suspects only took a filing cabinet.
Thousands of dollars-worth of industrial supplies in the facilities appear to be untouched. The fire department was even called in to make sure that the building was clear of anything or anyone.
The distribution center’s manager, Travis Parison said, “With the hole in the ceiling, they wanted to make sure no one was laying up there still. That there was no penetration all the way through the roof.” He noted that the burglars did not seem to be after the supplies.
“Looks like all they took was came right up here, took a filing cabinet, they had a little bit of money and some of the personal files for employees,” he said.
Police are planning to review the security video from a nearby building to get a better idea of who broke in and made away with the missing files and petty cash.
