Boy trapped in sand heads back to school

STERLING, Ill. It's a day an Illinois family is grateful for – their young son started school Monday, a simple feat that almost wasn’t possible.

Nathan Woessner almost lost his life during summer vacation when he was trapped under a sand dune for several hours. On Monday, he enjoyed his first day of the first grade.

Nathan his favorite part of starting school was getting to play outside.

Last month, Nathan's parents feared the worst when he was trapped under 11 feet of sand at Mount Baldy at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. He spent some time in the hospital after his rescue but since then has made a miraculous recovery and is now back home with his family in Sterling, Illinois. Nathan's parents say he's completely healed.
