A threat at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway forced the bomb squad to intervene on Saturday. A cooler was spotted in the parking lot with smoke coming from it.

The squad evacuated the area then detonated the container.

Police found what they called “consumer grade” fireworks inside the cooler.

The scare came on a weekend when thousands of fans were in town for the Indianapolis 500 which took place today.

The incident caused the parking lot to be closed for a few hours which resulted in backed-up traffic near the Speedway.

Police said that even though it was a false alarm, they planned to take extra safety measures following the Boston Marathon bombing last month.
