Benton Harbor woman sentenced for apartment arson

Setting fire to an apartment complex out of anger will cost a Benton Harbor women at least a decade in prison.

Monica Smith, 32, was sentenced yesterday for 10 to 20 years for arson.

That's according to our reporting partners at WSJM Radio.

Smith pled guilty to starting the Feb. 21 fire that caused $2 million damage to River Terrace Apartments.

The judge called her act "heartless" and even compared the fire to the recent bombings in Boston.

Smith apologized in court and asked for her neighbors to forgive her.

The fire was started after Smith had an argument with one of the tenants.
