Ball State University is mourning the death of one of its students on a flooded highway.
Authorities say 19-year-old Blake A. Taylor of Kokomo died late Sunday when his car overturned into a flooded ditch along State Road 26 in Grant County.
Ball State Vice President for Student Affairs Kay Bales says the university extends its sympathies to Taylor's family and friends. She says "the loss of such a young man is especially saddening."
Grant County Sheriff's Deputy Danny Jones says Taylor was heading to the Muncie campus when his car hydroplaned on flooded roadway about 11 p.m. Sunday and ended up overturned in a ditch filled with 4 to 5 feet of water. The sheriff's office estimates Taylor was in the water for 10 to 12 minutes.
