MUNCIE, Ind. Ball State University President Jo Ann Gora has told the board of trustees she plans to retire in June after 10 years on the job.

The Star Press reports she told the board of her plans Friday. Gora was the first woman to serve as president of a public university in Indiana.

She said in a statement that this will be her 10th year at Ball State, but her 40th in higher education. She says she's had a rewarding and fulfilling career.

Board President Hollis Hughes said in a statement that there is no good time to say goodbye to such a leader, but said the university is well positioned to continue to press forward in the course Gora. Hughes hopes to have a new president by July.
