INDIANAPOLIS The only vehicle ever built by a now-defunct company that had planned to build high-tech police cars at an eastern Indiana factory is going on the auction block.

A federal bankruptcy court in Indianapolis granted Carbon Motors permission last week to auction off the sole police car ever made by the company. That prototype squad car includes bulletproof door and dash panels and radiation and biological threat detectors.

Carbon Motors had promised to bring 1,300 jobs to the economically challenged city of Connersville, but the startup firm entered bankruptcy in September 2011.

The Indianapolis Star reports the proceeds from the Jan. 23 sale by Indianapolis-based Key Auctioneers will help pay some of the $21.7 million the company owes private vendors and investors.
