As we usher in the last few months of 2013, community members took part in a service this afternoon to remember those lost to violence in the past year.
The remembrance ceremony was held at Abundant Faith Family Ministries in South Bend. It was the final leg of the Unleashed Revival Tour that has been traveling throughout the country.
Folks came out to honor those who lost their lives and unite against violence in the South Bend area. Speakers emphasized healing through song, prayer and the teachings of the Bible.
Apostle James B. Williams Jr. and preacher Bishop Butler also spoke at the event.
“There are some people that might have gone through some things in January might have lost a son or a daughter in January and here it is 6 or 7 months later and no one remember them,” said Preach Elder Brown. “No one says anything else. So what we want to do is we want to end the year with remembrance of them we don't want to call them lost but we want to remember them.”
Those who participated in the event pledged to make 2014 a much more peaceful year.
Brown also spoke of the need for the community to come together.
"Not just as far as church is concerned but we need to come together as a whole," he said. "And once we have that unity then that's our first point. You start a fire, it takes one person to start it. This is that fire."
