Volunteers are gathering to clean a popular outdoor landmark in Michiana Saturday.
It’s the 16th annual Elkhart River cleanup sponsored by the Elkhart Environmental Center.
The focus of the clean up is to open up the main river channel and clean out some of the logjams interrupting the flow of the river.
Volunteers split into two crews, land and water. The land group’s job is to walk along the riverbank picking up trash and debris…while those in the water group use canoes to clean debris from the actual river.
Sign-up and snacks began at 8:30 a.m. with clean up starting a 30 minutes later. The group will end around 1 p.m. near Waterfall Drive.
