AM General is laying off 400 hourly workers beginning January 1st. The company told employees about the upcoming layoff this morning.
AM Generaly says it's a temporary pause, because international orders for Humvees have been delayed.
Workers will be brought back to the Mishawaka Plant in March, or sooner if new orders come in.
A spokesman says this is "the new normal for business, as orders ebb and flow, but the company has great confidence" in the future of Humvee production.
All laid-off workers qualify for unemployment, and AM General will continue to pay their health benefits. Today's announcement comes 2 weeks after some salary workers were let go by AM General.
