ABA taps Shepard to examine legal education

The American Bar Association has tapped former Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall Shepard to look into the state of legal education across America.

Shepard will look into whether law schools are preparing students to secure work after graduation. Some alumni have begun suing their alma maters with allegations the schools inflated their expectations of finding work after graduation.

Shepard retired from state's highest court earlier this year following a 27-year-career on the bench. He joined Indiana University's Public Policy Institute shortly afterward.

ABA President William Robinson III says in a statement that Shepard is "widely respected for his leadership in promoting legal education."

The ABA panel's work is expected to wrap up in 2014.
