Woman charged after letting five-year-old son drive

An Indiana mother is in jail after police say she got drunk and let her five-year old drive her home. Holly Schnobrich, 24 years old, is charged with neglect and public intoxication.

Early Sunday morning, a neighbor saw Schnobrich's car speed around the corner and come to a
screeching halt in front of her home. She ran outside to see what was wrong, and was shocked by what she found.

“So I approach the car, and the windows came down and there's a toddler on his knees, controlling the steering wheel,” said Wendy Barret, a neighbor.

"I asked her, ‘ma’am, are you ok? Do you need some help? Is this your toddler?’ she said, ‘yes, but he’s a good driver,’” continued Barret.

Schnobrich's three-year-old was also in the car, unrestrained in the backseat.

Both kids have been placed with Child Protective Services.

Police say they also found a half-empty bottle of sleeping pills in the car that Schnobrich said she had bought just two days earlier. According to the affidavit, the woman told investigators that she would take a prescription painkiller to calm down when her children acted up.

Schnobrich is behind bars and is being held on a 10,000 dollar bond. Just last week she pleaded guilty in another DUI case.
