Manigault claims financial irresponsibility by current office

The South Bend mayoral challenger, Juan Manigault, is accusing the current administration of not being financially responsible, but South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke says Manigault’s accusations are campaign slander.

Manigault says the city should have released an audit done by the state board of accounts this summer.

He says it shows some city accounts are overdrawn and EMS funds were not properly deposited, but Luecke says all audit reports are public record.

He says his administration has also received awards for being fiscally responsible.

“Certainly if there were dollars misused, misspent, those items would be reported, this is not of that nature,” said South Bend Mayor Steve Lueke.

“One of the first things that the Manigault administration is going to do, we're going to evaluate and assess every city program, to assure that these programs are meeting the purpose and the intent of the program, as they're funded by the city government,” said Juan Manigault, the South Bend mayoral candidate.

The election for South Bend mayor is about two months away, on November 6th.
