Teen stand-in no help for drunk driving suspect

Police say a 33-year-old man apparently trying to avoid a drunk driving arrest tried to hoodwink a sheriff's deputy by putting a 12-year-old passenger behind the wheel as the lawman approached.

But Delaware County sheriff's Deputy Bill Curtis wasn't buying James Storie's story.

The Muncie man was jailed on preliminary charges including neglect of a dependent and driving while intoxicated.

Curtis says he was patrolling for drunk drivers Tuesday night when he began following a minivan that turned down several streets before stopping. Curtis says that by the time he got to the car, the 12-year-old daughter of Storie's girlfriend was occupying the driver's seat.

Authorities say the minivan was being driven by Storie, whose blood-alcohol content of 0.17 percent was more than double the state's definition of intoxication.
