Ohio-based Franklin University will retool the advertising for its new Indianapolis campus to settle a lawsuit in which nearby Franklin College claimed it was facing a case of identity confusion.
The schools filed an agreement Tuesday in federal court that calls for Franklin University to referred to itself with terms such as "Franklin University of Ohio" in any Indiana advertising after Aug. 3. The agreement says neither school was admitting any fault.
Franklin College filed the lawsuit two weeks ago, saying it was needed to protect the "good name and reputation" of the 175-year-old liberal arts school about 20 miles south of Indianapolis.
Franklin University targets older students with campus and online courses and will primarily offer business classes at the Indianapolis site it is opening this fall.
