An Indiana financial manager suspected of faking his death in a plane crash before leading authorities on a three-day manhunt is recovering in a Florida hospital from a suicide attempt.

Doctors are expected to re-examine 38-year-old Marcus Schrenker of Hamilton County Friday to see if he is well enough to make the 200-mile trip from Tallahassee to Pensacola to face federal charges.

If he is convicted of the federal charges, he could face up to 20 years in prison.

Authorities say Schrenker will be prosecuted first in Florida, then Indiana, where he has been charged with acting as a financial manager even though his license had expired. State regulators also have alleged that he unfairly charged seven investors some $250,000 in exorbitant fees he didn't tell them about in advance.
