Some local lawmakers have already started discussion following Gov. Mitch Daniels’ State of the State address Tuesday night.
State Rep. Bill Friend (R) of Macy, IN had this to say: “Money is tight right now for Hoosiers families and the state. I am confident that, under Gov. Daniels leadership, we can create a balanced budget and keep our state moving forward. I am glad to have him leading our state in these challenging times.”
Rep. Friend went on to say, “I am also pleased that the governor presented his viewpoint that Indiana citizens should be confident that our state can weather this economic storm. It is imperative that we cultivate the resolve to be successful.”
Rep. Tim Neese (R) of Elkhart, IN said, “Gov. Daniels’ State of the State speech showed that there is hope in these difficult times. Indiana remains only one of just a few states that, fiscally, remains in the black. We need a solid plan to navigate around the obstacles that do remain to ensure Indiana taxpayers make it through these tough times.”
Rep. Jackie Walorski (R) of Jimtown, IN said, “Gov. Daniels came to us with a tough reality check to keep us focused on doing what is best for Hoosiers in the face of this recession. I appreciate his resolve to leave the state’s surplus untouched and his dedication to invest in the future of our state’s economy by supporting education initiatives. Our challenge this session is to spend less, but boost Indiana’s job climate so that businesses are encouraged to stay and relocate here.”
