A firetruck responding to a call slammed into a car at a Gary intersection, killing the car's driver.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Steve Van Der Aa says investigators believe 24-year-old Lakecia Rozier may have run a red light. The Lake County coroner's office says Rozier died of blunt force trauma after the firetruck smashed into her car's driver's side about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Cable company worker Rich Lynn says he was working nearby and retrieved a crying baby from the back of the car.
Police say the firetruck's lights and sirens were running.
Gary Fire Department Battalion Chief Robert Groszewski says the three firefighters on the ladder truck were shaken but not hurt.
Groszewski says two other cars were involved in the crash that knocked the car dozens of feet, and three or four people were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
