A federal judge is blocking the opening of early voting satellite sites in three Lake County cities until he can hear arguments on whether they violate state law.
U.S. District Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen has scheduled the hearing for Friday. An attorney representing the Republican Party says both parties agreed to put off opening any satellite offices until at least Tuesday.
Democratic officials want to open the satellite offices in Gary, Hammond and East Chicago. Republicans say a unanimous vote is required by the election board to open the offices. The board voted 3-2 for the satellite offices.
Currently, early voting is only available in Lake County at the Election Office in Crown Point.
