Two men described by the U.S. attorney's office as members of the Latin Kings street gang have agreed to plead guilty to federal charges as part of plea deals.
Court documents filed Friday show Sisto Bernal of Chicago has agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to participate in racketeering activity, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine and 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana and interference with commerce by threats or violence.
Court documents show David Lira, of Lansing, Ill., agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to participate in racketeering activity.
Both face possible life sentences. The Post-Tribune of Merrillville reports (http://bit.ly/Nn93TB ) the plea deals call for Bernal to be sentenced to at least 10 years in prison and Lira to 15.
