2 men rescued after falling into Ind. sewage tank

Two Indiana workers are recovering after falling nearly 20 feet to the bottom of an empty sewage processing tank.

Emergency workers used ropes and baskets to rescue the men Friday afternoon after they fell into the sewage digester at the Lafayette wastewater treatment plant.

Lafayette water pollution control director Brad Talley tells the Journal & Courier (http://on.jconline.com/QBPpYf ) the men were sealing cracks in the tank when the scaffolding on which they were standing collapsed. The men work for a private contractor.

Zachary Morrison had a leg injury and was taken to Franciscan St. Elizabeth East, where he was in fair condition Saturday. Jarrard Elliott was released from Indiana University Health following treatment for a gash on his head.

Another worker who didn't fall was treated for a head injury.
