A $1 million donation to U.S. Rep. Mike Pence for his Indiana gubernatorial campaign is raising questions about whether political action committees allow a secrecy that could hide influence over Indiana elections.
Pence received the check from RGA Right Direction. But critics say it's impossible to know who supplied the money because it was funneled through the political action committee.
The Indianapolis Star reports the super PAC is backed by the Republican Governors Association but draws support from donations to the association. That allows organizations like gambling companies that are barred from giving directly to a candidate to remain involved in politics.
Common Cause Indiana policy director Julia Vaughn wants Pence to return the donation.
Pence spokeswoman Christy Denault says Pence will follow Indiana election laws about disclosure.
