A 14-year-old Eagle Scout is spearheading a campaign to send CDs, DVDs, music players, socks, and other items to wounded soldiers at a military hospital in Germany.

Zack White joined friends, his mother and others Saturday in boxing the first shipment of items, among them CDs, DVDs, music players, snacks, shirts, slippers and 96 pairs of socks.

White learned last year while living in Germany with his Army officer father that wounded soldiers evacuated from Iraq often waited weeks or months for their personal belongings to be sent to them from combat zones.

Upset by that situation, he contacted a group that provides relief items for wounded soldiers at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, the largest American overseas military hospital.

White organized the effort as part of his Eagle Scout project with Troop 906 in Valparaiso.
