Marines to hold urban combat training in Indianapolis

About 2,300 Marines will take part in an urban combat training exercise in central and southern Indiana next month.

The exercise will include helicopter landings and simulated combat at Indianapolis shopping malls and parks.

Most of the exercises by the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit will take place at Camp Atterbury, but there were also be activity in Columbus, Seymour, Hope, North Vernon and Greensburg.

The city of Indianapolis offered the Marines 26 sites for training, include Eastgate Mall, Bush Stadium and several city parks.

Officials say residents living near the training activity will be notified in advance. The exercises are scheduled for June 4th through 19th.
