A New Albany kindergarten teacher has been suspended after a student's parents produced a recording they say shows she verbally abused their son.

The recording was made when 5-year-old Gabe Ross carried a digital recorder in his pocket to S. Ellen Jones Elementary School so his parents could hear how the teachers he complained of were treating him.

On the recording, a woman can be heard calling the boy "pathetic."

Ross' stepfather, J.R. Edwards, says he's concerned about the "psychological impact" on his son.

An education association has filed a grievance on behalf of the teacher, Kristen Woodward, saying she was disciplined unfairly. Woodward couldn't be reached for comment.
