Two men robbed a bank in Gary yesterday during a campaign appearance by Senator Barack Obama at a nearby school.

The FBI says one of the men shot a security guard at the Harris Bank while the other vaulted the counter and took money from the teller drawers. The men were described as black and wearing oversized jumpsuits, hooded sweatshirts and white masks.

The guard was taken to a hospital.

Police were providing tight security for Obama. But FBI spokeswoman Wendy Osborne says there's no reason to think the robbers might have hit the bank at a time when police might be occupied with Obama's visit about three miles away.

She says the holdup was the latest in a string of bank robberies in the area.
