A federal grant of more than $700,000 will help restore a historic covered bridge and install it over a creek near Bloomington.
The single-span Burr Arch Truss bridge was erected in 1885 in Shelby County and spanned the Little Blue River north of Shelbyville. The bridge was placed in storage in 1975 to protect it from deterioration.
Its new home will be over Bean Blossom Creek in Monroe County. The county's last covered bridge was on that site until it was destroyed by arson in 1976.
Monroe County Public Works Director Bill Williams says the restoration work should begin in 2011.
