Dauphin Island drowning victim identified as Indiana man

An Indiana man who drowned off the Dauphin Island public beach in Alabama has been identified as 40-year-old Gary Bormett of Carmel.

Dauphin Island Police Chief George Goodwin said Bormett's body was found about 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Emergency callers reported that he had gone under while swimming and failed to surface.

The Coast Guard reported that Bormett was about 100 feet off the Dauphin Island fishing pier.
