Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas says he is seeking the Republican nomination for Indiana Attorney General, after Steve Carter said he would not seek a third term.

Costas says he spent the past six days doing "a lot of soul searching" before deciding to seek the nomination at the state Republican convention in June.

On Tuesday, Secretary of State Todd Rokita said he would not seek the Attorney General's post and would support Costas.

Costas is an attorney who specializes in elder law. He did not have a Democratic opponent when he was re-elected to a second term as mayor of Valparaiso last year.
