Fort Wayne has created a Hispanic/Latino liaison to build a better relationship with the city's second-largest minority group.

The new position will aim to improve access to city programs and resources and create trust. Administrative assistant Vanessa Myers, who works in Mayor Tom Henry's public information office, has been named to the job.

Myers will make $36,000. The Puerto Rican native is fluent in Spanish.

Myers said the new post expands on some volunteer work she had been doing to build connections between Hispanic groups and the city.
