Gary Police Chief Thomas Houston and two top aides have been indicted on misconduct charges involving treatment of suspects in the break-in of the chief's home.

That's according to Mayor Rudy Clay, who says the three are all good police officers and are innocent until proven guilty.

The Post-Tribune of Merrillville reports that the FBI has requested that the men turn themselves in today and appear before a magistrate at the U.S. District Court in Hammond.

The newspaper said the four suspects in the break-n last summer were held for 48 hours without being charged and alleged that they were beaten by police.

The Associated Press left a message with the Gary Police Department seeking comment.
