State police say traffic is moving again on Interstate 74 near Batesville after it nearly came to a standstill this morning due to ice and snow on the road.

Police say motorists in both directions were unable to make it up a hill on the interstate about 60 miles southeast of Indianapolis. Traffic is moving again after road crews salted the area.

Troopers have responded to numerous slide-offs and crashes.

A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain in central and northern Indiana also triggered power outages and caused schools to delay or cancel the start of classes this morning.

The National Weather Service says several inches of snow fell in northeast Indiana overnight.

Duke Energy says about 2,200 customers remain without power this morning, with the majority in eastern Indiana's Henry County.
