Governor Mitch Daniels told a conservative think tank that the Gary-Chicago International Airport has potential and that leasing it might be the answer.
Daniels spoke Monday during a speech before the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C.
He said the airport has benefited from the lease of the Indiana Toll Road.
Gary Mayor Rudy Clay first publicly broached the idea of leasing the airport in October, when he said "private investment bankers" had approached him a month before.
Clay still would not name interested investors yesterday. He said any public-private partnership for the airport is still in the "embryonic stage."
