MILLTOWN, Ind. Authorities say a 16-year-old girl drowned after she was swept away by a southern Indiana river's current while swimming with a friend.

State conservation officers say the girl was in the Blue River near the Crawford County town of Milltown Tuesday evening when she tried to swim across it near a small dam.

Officers say she was caught in the current and her friend wasn't able to help her. The girl's body was found about a half mile downstream in the rural area about 30 miles northwest of Louisville, Ky.

Other information about the victim wasn't immediately released. The girl's friend wasn't hurt.
