Indianapolis police say a shooting outside a gas station and a bank near Geist Reservoir appears to be an attempted murder and suicide.
The shooting occurred about 11:15 a.m. Friday in an area next to an elementary school on the city's northeast side.
City police Sgt. Matthew Mount says a 50-year-old woman was pumping gas when a man got out of a sport-utility vehicle and fired at her. The man then returned to his vehicle, drove to the parking lot of a neighboring bank branch, where he apparently shot himself to death.
Mount says the woman was in critical condition when taken to a hospital.
Several schools were locked down briefly while police investigated the shooting.
