The FBI says a convicted murderer who escaped from a medium-security state prison in northwestern Pennsylvania is likely in Indiana or Minnesota where he has family.

Special Agent Kirk Brace in Erie says efforts to find 53-year-old Malcolm Kysor in Pennsylvania have failed. Authorities have contacted family he has in the state and in some parts of Ohio and don't believe he's in those areas.

Officials say Kysor escaped from the State Correctional Institution-Albion on Sunday in a garbage can after another inmate piled a bag and a box on top of Kysor to hide him.

Police say tips that Kysor was in Pennsylvania have turned up nothing concrete.
