Authorities say a fire that caused an estimated $1 million in damage to three apartment buildings under construction in Merrillville is believed to be arson.
Firefighters say Wednesday night's fire at the Prairie Point apartment complex was spread by 40 mph winds.
State fire investigator Jeff Roseboom says an accelerant was used to start the fire in the southwest side of one building.
The fire destroyed one building and damaged two others. The two-story buildings contained 16 apartments each.
No one was injured in the fire. The wind kept the fire away from occupied buildings.
