The National Park Service has turned to electronic field trips produced at Ball State University as a way to again get kids and families interested in national parks.
Electronic field trips are an increasingly popular classroom teaching tool. They incorporate Webcasts and video games to teach kids about different places. Several electronic field trips featuring different national parks have been produced.
One recent electronic field trip featured Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Park rangers talk about the animals and habitats that can be seen there.
In the accompanying video game, kids can pretend to be a new park ranger who has to learn about where in the park they can find animals like antelope and grizzly bears.
