Feds raid 'Liberty Dollar' headquarters in Evansville

Federal agents have raided the Evansville headquarters of a group that produces illegal currency, including coins featuring Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.

The developer of the coins, Bernard von NotHaus, told The Associated Press that FBI agents seized two tons of copper and 500 pounds of silver during the raid yesterday.

The raid comes eight months after von NotHaus filed a federal lawsuit seeking a permanent injunction to stop the federal government from labeling the Liberty Dollar an illegal currency.

The U.S. Mint earlier this year issued a warning consumers against using them.

Paul's campaign says it hasn't authorized production of the Ron Paul dollars.

The FBI and the U.S. Attorney's office have declined to comment.
