If you're stressed out and catch a cold, the symptoms from that cold will likely last longer.

A new study out of Carnegie Mellon University finds stress leads to the overproduction of the hormone cortisol, which increases the inflammatory response in the body.

When a person is exposed to a cold, and is also feeling stressed, the increased inflammatory response causes persistent cold symptoms.

Doctors say this adds to the evidence that rest is needed to beat that cold.
