People with expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs can take them to Indiana State Police posts on Saturday to be disposed of properly.
State police say the federal Drug Enforcement Administration is sponsoring the third nationwide "Prescription Drug Take Back" initiative. The aim is to dispose of prescription medications in an environmentally sound way. The service is free and anonymous, no
questions asked.
State police say they will be accepting the drugs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at all posts except for the Toll Road Post in Bristol.
The DEA reports that in the spring it collected more than 188 tons of unwanted or expired medications for disposal nationwide. DEA officials say medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse and abuse.
