New research finds acupuncture may be effective in treating some forms of chronic pain.

Scientists reviewed almost 30 studies involving patients with neck, back and shoulder pain, chronic headaches or osteoarthritis.

Overall, those who got acupuncture reported less pain than those who didn't get acupuncture.

In fact, even patients given 'sham' acupuncture, where the needles aren't placed properly, got more relief than non-acupuncture patients.

Researchers say these results suggest acupuncture should be considered as a reasonable option for chronic pain.
